Savings growth
How this estimate works
Contributions are added at month-end. The annual return is an effective rate converted to a monthly rate. Returns are constant in this illustration; actual returns vary. Fees and taxes are excluded. Contributions stay fixed in dollar terms.
Savings goal
How this estimate works
Target is in future dollars and is not adjusted for inflation. Contributions are made at month-end. Constant effective annual return, compounded monthly; fees and taxes excluded.
Retirement income gap
How this estimate works
Use spending and income on the same after-tax basis. Both amounts are increased by the same constant inflation assumption. This estimates an income gap only, not the savings needed to fund it. It does not calculate CPP, OAS, taxes, benefit timing or longevity.
Mortgage payoff
How this estimate works
Assumes a Canadian fixed-rate mortgage with a nominal annual rate compounded semi-annually, monthly payments at month-end and a constant rate for the full remaining amortization. The regular payment is calculated from your entries. Extra payments begin with the next payment. Final payment is reduced to the outstanding amount. Fees, insurance, taxes, lender rounding, renewal changes and prepayment penalties are excluded. Check your lender’s prepayment limits before making extra payments. This is not a mortgage quote.
