What support could be available to you?
Choose the question that needs attention. Your policy or benefits provider must confirm the support available.
Critical illness
A policy may pay a lump sum for a covered illness. Check the insured person, policy definitions, waiting periods and other conditions. Ask the adviser or insurer about claim documents and deadlines. A payment depends on the contract and the insurer’s assessment.
Income protection
Check workplace and personal disability coverage. Confirm when payments may begin, how much they could provide, how long they may last and whether other income reduces them. Plan around money currently received while an application is assessed.
Health and workplace benefits
Confirm enrolment, covered family members and remaining limits. Before paying for care, check eligibility, prior approval and reimbursement. Ask how multiple plans work together. Keep receipts and provider messages.
Accident-related support
Workplace, vehicle or other insurance may be relevant. Identify the policy in force when the accident happened. Benefit amounts on a summary are not necessarily approved payments. Ask what each benefit covers and what has been confirmed.
Life insurance
Check whose life is insured, who owns the policy and who receives its benefit. Death benefits, cash values and benefits during life are different. Before changing coverage, understand remaining protection, costs and tax consequences.
Household finances
List income currently received and bills coming due. Keep possible insurance payments separate until their approval and timing are known. Start with urgent bills and ask for help deciding what needs attention first.
Ask your adviser or provider what is known, what still needs confirmation and who will take the next step.
